Mission & Objectives

ESGBOR, ESCMID Study Group for Lyme Borreliosis, was first inaugurated at the 12th International Conference on Lyme Borreliosis and other Tick-Borne Diseases, 28 September 2010 in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and officially established at the ECCMID/ICC 2011 in Milan, Italy.
Our mission is to provide a pan-European information resource for Lyme borreliosis and other tick-borne diseases based on our extensive network of physicians and scientists specialised in the field.

ESGBOR originated from the network of physicians and scientists that was established during an EU-funded Concerted Action on Lyme Borreliosis (EUCALB) for clinical case definitions, diagnosis and management of LB in Europe. Since then, ESGBOR has broadened its scope to include other tick-borne diseases and has continued to function in an advisory capacity. In 2024, the study group was renamed to ESGBOR, ESCMID Study Group for Tick-Borne Diseases to reflect the broadened scope.
ESGBOR reviews diagnostic and treatment guidelines for tick-borne diseases, facilitates research, organises thematic meetings and maintains this website as an information resource for healthcare professionals. The study group’s activities is largely based on the updating and expansion of this information resource, supported by seminars and workshops.
